Students are expected to attend all classes and laboratory sessions (or demonstrate active online participation), unless prevented by illness or other unavoidable situations. Any absences should be explained to each instructor, and the instructor may impose penalties when absences cause completion of the course work to be difficult or impossible. Numerous absences, especially if they are without good reason, may result in a final grade of X or F. Financial aid can be withdrawn for non-attendance. Students should verify the specific attendance policy of each instructor.
Financial aid can be reduced or withdrawn for non-attendance. A non-attending student may be required to repay some or all of their financial aid and could lose eligibility for future financial assistance.
The college is required to report student attendance to the State University of New York by semester and part of term. The census reporting period is generally the first 20% of each part of term. Students who have failed to physically attend in-person classes or have not demonstrated active online participation in online classes during the census reporting period will be considered a “no-show” and deregistered from their courses. Active online academic participation includes submitting an academic assignment, taking an exam, interacting in a study group, group project or online discussion assigned by the college, interacting with an instructor about academic content. Logging into an online class or tutorial without any further participation or participating in academic counseling/advisement do not qualify as active online participation.
